Tesla's Holiday 2025 Update: How to Create and Apply Custom Wraps to Your Tesla's Display
Tesla's 2025 Holiday Update brought a fun new feature: custom wraps for your car's digital 3D model. Here's how to create your own designs, where to find community galleries, and step-by-step instructions to apply them to your Tesla's touchscreen, app, and Apple Watch.

Tesla's 2025 Holiday Update dropped with a bunch of new features, but there's one that's been surprisingly fun to play with: Custom Wraps. This feature lets you apply custom designs to your Tesla's 3D model—visible on your car's touchscreen, the Tesla app, and even your Apple Watch.
No, it won't change your actual car's paint job (wouldn't that be something?), but it's a fun way to personalize how your Tesla appears digitally. Want a matte black look? A festive holiday theme? A custom design that matches your real-world wrap? Now you can.
What Are Tesla Custom Wraps?
Custom wraps are PNG images that overlay your Tesla's digital 3D model inside the car's Paint Shop interface (found in Toybox). Think of it as a skin for your car's avatar.
Once applied, your custom wrap shows up in three places:
- Your Tesla's touchscreen (in the car visualization)
- The Tesla mobile app
- Your Apple Watch (if you use the Tesla app)
It's a small touch, but seeing your personalized design every time you open the app or glance at your watch is pretty satisfying.
How to Create Your Own Custom Wrap
You have two options: create from scratch using Tesla's official templates, or use a community-built design editor.
Option 1: Using Tesla's Official Templates
Tesla provides official wrap templates for each vehicle model on GitHub. Here's the process:
- Download the template for your vehicle from Tesla's GitHub repo
- Open in image editing software (Photoshop, GIMP, Canva, etc.)
- Fill in the white zones with your colors, graphics, or textures
- Export following Tesla's specifications (see below)
Each white space on the template corresponds to a different surface of your car. The template essentially "unwraps" your car's 3D model into a flat image you can edit.
Option 2: Use an Online Design Editor (Easier)
If you don't want to mess with templates and image editing software, the community has built some excellent tools:
Tesla Wrap Gallery (tesla-wrap.com) — This is my favourite. It has:
- A visual design studio where you can create wraps in your browser
- A community gallery of downloadable designs
- Filter by model (Model 3, Y, S, X, Cybertruck)
- Ability to upload and share your own creations
Jowua Wrap Editor — Another solid option from the Tesla accessory company Jowua. They also have pre-made designs you can download directly.
Image Requirements
Whether you create from scratch or use an editor, your final image must meet these specs:
- File format: PNG
- Resolution: 512×512 to 1024×1024 pixels
- File size: Under 1 MB
- Filename: Alphanumeric characters, spaces, underscores, or dashes only (30 characters max)
The community editors typically handle these requirements automatically when you export.
Setting Up Your USB Drive
Custom wraps are transferred to your Tesla via USB drive, similar to how Sentry Mode footage or Boombox sounds work.
1. Format Your USB Drive
Your USB must be formatted with one of these file systems:
- exFAT (recommended)
- FAT32 (Windows)
- MS-DOS FAT (Mac)
- ext3 or ext4 (Linux)
⚠️ NTFS is NOT supported.
2. Create the Wraps Folder
At the root level of your USB drive, create a folder named exactly: Wraps
Important: Don't include any Tesla firmware or navigation map update files on the same USB drive, as this can cause conflicts.
3. Add Your PNG Files
Drop your completed PNG wrap files into the Wraps folder. You can include up to 10 wrap files at once.
Applying Wraps in Your Tesla
Once your USB is ready:
- Insert the USB drive into one of your Tesla's USB ports
- Go to Toybox on your touchscreen
- Tap Paint Shop
- Select the Wraps tab
- Browse your designs and tap to apply
That's it! Your wrap will now display on your car's 3D visualization. Give it a few moments to sync, and you'll see it appear in the Tesla app and Apple Watch as well.
Pro tip: While you're in Paint Shop, you can also tap on the license plate to customize the text displayed on your digital model and create custom plate designs too.
Troubleshooting
If your wraps aren't showing up, check these common issues:
- USB format: Make sure it's not NTFS
- Folder name: Must be exactly "Wraps" (case-sensitive)
- File format: PNG only (not JPG, JPEG, etc.)
- Resolution: Between 512×512 and 1024×1024 pixels
- File size: Under 1 MB
- Filename: No special characters (stick to letters, numbers, spaces, underscores, dashes)
- Conflicting files: Remove any firmware or map update files from the USB
If you're still having issues, try reformatting the USB drive completely and testing with just a single wrap file.
Community Resources
The Tesla community has really run with this feature. Here are the best places to find and share designs:
Tesla Wrap Gallery
Website: tesla-wrap.com
This is probably the most polished community resource. It features:
- Online design studio for creating wraps directly in your browser
- Gallery sorted by most downloaded
- Filter by vehicle model
- Upload and share your own creations
Tesla's Official GitHub
Repository: github.com/teslamotors/custom-wraps
This is where you'll find the official templates for each vehicle. Essential if you want to create designs from scratch in Photoshop or similar software.
Reddit r/TeslaLounge
The TeslaLounge subreddit has become a hub for sharing custom wrap designs. Search for "custom wrap" to find threads with community galleries and design inspiration.
Design Ideas
Not sure what to create? Here are some popular themes I've seen:
- Match your real wrap: If you've got a vinyl wrap on your actual car, recreate it digitally
- Matte finishes: Matte black, matte gray, satin bronze
- Racing liveries: F1-inspired, Le Mans classics
- Holiday themes: Christmas wraps, Halloween designs
- Cyberpunk/futuristic: Neon accents, circuit patterns
- Colors Tesla doesn't offer: Purple, orange, chrome
- Two-tone designs: Black roof with colored body
Final Thoughts
Is this feature life-changing? No. Is it a fun bit of personalization that makes your Tesla feel more like yours? Absolutely.
Tesla's been leaning into these "fun" software features for a while (remember Santa Mode?), and I think it's a nice touch. The fact that your custom wrap syncs across the car, phone app, and watch creates a consistent personal experience.
The community galleries like Tesla Wrap Gallery have made this incredibly accessible even if you're not a designer. Just browse, download, and apply. Or if you're the creative type, fire up the design studio and share your creation with the community.
Happy wrapping! 🚗✨
